This is a 20th-century Chinese hardwood cabinet featuring two central doors above two base drawers. The frame is constructed from a dark-stained reddish hardwood with a visible grain, possibly rosewood or a similar dalbergia species. The cabinet is decorated using the bai bao qian technique, featuring high-relief inlays of various materials including soapstone and mother-of-pearl set against black lacquered panels. The doors depict a traditional scene with four female figures, likely court ladies or Daoist immortals. The top panel is inset with a further black lacquer board decorated with chrysanthemums and garden rockery. The interior is fitted with a single shelf.
Height: Approximately 85 cm.
Condition report:
The cabinet is in good overall condition. There are minor surface scratches and light wear to the wood and lacquer finish consistent with age and use, particularly to the top surface. The hardstone inlays appear largely intact, though minor losses to small details may be present. The brass hardware shows a natural patina and light tarnish.
