A collection of hardcover volumes primarily comprising the Swallows and Amazons series by Arthur Ransome, accompanied by a single volume of Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. The titles present in the collection include Swallows and Amazons, Swallowdale, Peter Duck, Winter Holiday, Coot Club, Pigeon Post, We Didn’t Mean To Go To Sea, Secret Water, The Big Six, Missee Lee, The Picts and the Martyrs, and Great Northern?. The volume Secret Water is presented in its original pictorial dust jacket. The title page for Coot Club is visible, featuring a vignette of a coot on a nest, facing a frontispiece illustration captioned Night in the Titmouse. Black Beauty is a Bancroft Classics edition. Several of the Ransome volumes are protected by clear plastic sleeves.
Condition report:
The collection shows various signs of age and shelf wear. There is rubbing to the cloth extremities and bumping to the corners across the set. Several spines exhibit fading and minor fraying to the cloth at the head and foot. The text blocks show general toning and occasional spotting to the edges. The dust jacket for Secret Water shows edge wear and some minor chipping.
