A First World War British military General Service whistle, produced by the renowned manufacturer J. Hudson and Co. of Birmingham. This cylindrical whistle, frequently referred to as a trench whistle, follows the standard pattern issued to officers and non-commissioned officers for signalling commands during the Great War. The body is constructed from metal, likely nickel-plated brass, which has developed a significant dark patina. It features a circular suspension loop at the top and a flared mouthpiece at the base. The barrel is clearly stamped with the manufacturer details J. HUDSON and Co, BIRMINGHAM above the date 1918. The internal pea mechanism remains intact. The whistle is presented in a modern, non-original cardboard box with a black foam insert for display.
Condition report:
The whistle is in good vintage condition, exhibiting a heavy and consistent dark aged patina across the metal surfaces. There is minor surface wear, light scratches, and small areas of oxidation consistent with an item of this age and period of service. The metal remains structurally sound with no significant indentations. The accompanying presentation box is modern and in good condition.
