An adjustable Victorian metamorphic gout stool or backrest, constructed from mahogany with a dark stained finish. While visually similar to pieces produced by specialist manufacturers such as J. Carter or Hooper of London, no maker’s mark is present on this example.
Condition report:
The stool is in good structural condition. The cane panel is intact and retains its tension. The mahogany frame shows surface wear, light scratches, and abrasions to the finish consistent with age and use. The adjustment mechanism is in good working order.
