The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £120

Buyer's Premium:

A vintage 4/4 full-size violin of European trade origin, modelled after the work of Jacob Stainer. The instrument features a high-arched body constructed with a two-piece flamed maple back, matching ribs, and a spruce top. The fingerboard, tuning pegs, and chinrest are crafted from ebony. It is fitted with a modern black tailpiece featuring four integrated fine tuners. The name STAINER is stamped into the wood on the reverse of the body, positioned directly below the button. The lot includes a bow featuring an octagonal stick, an ebony frog with a mother-of-pearl eye, and a three-part adjuster button. The instrument is housed in a vintage wood-framed coffin style hard case with a textured brown exterior and a dark velvet-lined interior.

Condition report:

The violin shows age-related wear and abrasions to the varnish, particularly around the edges and the bridge area. There is a prominent vertical crack or seam separation on the back plate that runs through the STAINER stamp. The bow is in need of professional attention as the horsehair is loose and broken. The case is in poor condition with significant peeling, abrasions, and loss to the outer textured material. Professional luthier inspection is recommended to assess structural integrity and setup.
