This lot comprises two metal fireplace fenders of varying styles, representative of late 19th and early 20th-century British domestic design. The first is an Arts and Crafts movement copper fender of rectangular, sloped form. The second fender is a low-profile pierced gallery type. No maker’s marks are present on either piece.
Condition report:
Both fenders show significant signs of age and use. The copper fender has a deep, aged patina with prominent green verdigris oxidation within the recessed areas of the repoussé work. There are various surface marks and small indentations consistent with domestic use. The pierced gallery fender displays heavy patination and surface oxidation, with visible corrosion and rust on the internal iron structure and base.
