An oak box settle, also known as a hall bench, designed in the 17th-century Jacobean style. No maker’s marks or labels are visible.
Condition report:
The settle is in a condition consistent with age and frequent use. There is significant wear to the finish throughout, including numerous scratches, scuffs, and small indentations, particularly on the seat and armrests. Several drying cracks and splits are visible, most notably on the scrolled armrest terminals; these appear to be stable age-related movements in the timber. The hinges are present and functional. The interior compartment shows signs of use and darkening but remains structurally sound.
