A large, rustic English vernacular dining table, dating from the late 18th to mid-19th century. A small incised mark, possibly the number 14 or a letter H, is visible on the upper section of one leg, likely an original carpenter’s assembly mark. No other maker’s marks or stamps are visible.
Condition report:
The table is in a heavily weathered and distressed condition, which is characteristic for provincial furniture of this age and type. The top surface shows extensive signs of use, including scratches, dents, and abrasions. There is a significant historic longitudinal split running along the grain of one of the top planks. The base is structurally sound, with the overall piece exhibiting wear and finish variations consistent with long-term use in a farmhouse or tavern environment.
