This lot consists of two Chinese decorative objects. The first is a rectangular jewellery box constructed from a dark reddish-brown hardwood, possibly rosewood, with visible dovetail joinery. The second item is a square cast bronze plaque with indented corners. Inscribed 御製 (Imperial production) and concludes with the date 宣德七年正月十五日 (Xuande 7th Year, 1st Month, 15th Day). While this references the reign of the Xuande Emperor (1425–1435) of the Ming Dynasty, the mark is apocryphal, and the plaque likely dates to the late 19th or early 20th century.
Condition report:
The jewellery box is in good overall condition with minor surface scratches and tarnishing to the brass hardware consistent with age. The interior fabric lining is intact with light signs of use. The bronze plaque exhibits a heavy, developed green verdigris and brown patina with surface pitting and oxidation throughout, consistent with its intended antique aesthetic.
