A pair of Edwardian sterling silver twin-handled dishes by Britton, Hill & Co, Birmingham 1901. These small footed dishes are of oval boat-shaped form and feature ornate chased and repoussé decoration. The decorative scheme consists of dense scrolling foliage and flower heads set against a stippled ground, framed by a gadrooned and pellet-moulded rim. Each vessel is raised on an oval pedestal foot with matching embossed ornamentation and is flanked by two high-arched, swept handles. The hallmarks are located on the upper body near the rim and include the maker mark B over H for Britton, Hill & Co, the lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for the Birmingham assay office, and the date letter b for the year 1901.
Condition report:
Both dishes are in good antique condition with surface tarnish and light wear commensurate with age and use. The interior surfaces show remnants of possible original gilding. No major distortions or repairs are evident.
