A polychrome glazed porcelain figurine depicting the Persian polymath and poet Omar Khayyam, produced by the English ceramicist Reginald Johnson under his The Studio Potter mark.The underside of the base features the printed title Omar Khayyam by The Studio Potter in stylized blackletter font. Below the maker mark is a four-line stanza from Edward FitzGeralds translation of the Rubaiyat: The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, / Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit / Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, / Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it. The base also carries a handwritten signature in black ink, R Johnson. A small white inventory sticker numbered 1471 is affixed to the back of the bench and the underside.


Condition report:

The figurine is in good condition overall. There is fine, age-related crazing visible in the glaze on the white underside of the base. No chips, cracks, or evidence of restoration are apparent from visual inspection. Minor surface wear is present on the base contact points.
