This traditional West African heddle pulley is hand-carved from a single block of dense hardwood, designed for use in strip-weaving looms to facilitate the movement of heddles. No maker’s marks or signatures are present.

The item possesses a deep, dark brown patina. It shows signs of use-wear consistent with its functional history, including minor abrasions to the base and a softening of the carved edges. The glass beads and cowrie shells remain largely intact and well-affixed.
