A Chinese censer and matching cover carved from translucent, pale sea-green fluorite. The vessel is of compressed globular form, featuring two handles carved as mythical dragon heads. The material displays a high degree of translucency with a watery appearance and characteristic internal cleavage planes. This piece is carved in the Chinese archaic style, typical of 20th-century decorative lapidary work. Visual inspection of the base and interior reveals no reign marks, signatures, or inscriptions.
Condition report:
There is a significant and visible structural crack running through the base of the vessel, extending into one of the feet. The item shows extensive internal fracturing throughout both the lid and the body, which is inherent to the natural properties of fluorite but impacts overall stability. Minor chips are present on the finer carved details of the handles and finial, consistent with age and the fragile nature of the material.
