A collection of vintage decorative domestic items comprising a pair of bookends, a pair of large standing figures, and a glass vase. The pair of Art Deco style bookends features seated porcelain figures of young girls mounted on carved L-shaped alabaster or onyx bases. The figures are finished in a high-gloss glaze; one girl wears a large red sun hat, the other wears a yellow sun hat. The pair of large standing decorative figures are crafted from painted chalkware or plaster in a folk art style. A tall, slender-necked blue pressed glass vase features a bulbous lower section decorated with an embossed grapes and vine pattern. No factory maker’s marks are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The collection exhibits various signs of age and wear. The bookends have significant condition issues, including a large vertical crack extending through the back of the figure with the red hat and a horizontal crack and chip to the lap area of the figure with the yellow hat; the stone bases show general surface grime and minor nibbles to the edges. The chalkware figures feature a heavily distressed finish with substantial paint loss, flaking, and chipping throughout, most notably to the faces, headwear, and bases. The pressed glass vase appears to be in generally good condition with no immediate signs of major chips or cracks.
