A Czechoslovakian military bayonet and scabbard, manufactured by Zbrojovka Brno. This model is a post-Second World War production of the VZ-24 pattern Mauser-style bayonet. The piece comprises a straight, single-edged steel blade featuring a longitudinal fuller on each face. The hilt is fitted with two dark wood grip scales secured by flush rivets. The steel crossguard is designed with an integral muzzle ring, while the birds-head pommel incorporates a spring-loaded locking mechanism for attachment to a rifle lug. It is accompanied by its original steel scabbard and a brown leather belt frog of stitched and riveted construction. The scabbard stud displays the maker code tgf and the Czechoslovak military acceptance mark E 50, featuring a small lion crest between the letter and date.
Blade length: 300 mm.
Condition report:
The item is in fair, used condition. The blade and metal hilt components exhibit surface oxidation, darkening, and light pitting consistent with age and service. The wooden grips remain intact but show darkening and abrasions from handling. The steel scabbard shows significant surface corrosion and loss of original finish. The leather frog is heavily worn with prominent surface cracking and stiffness.
