This lot comprises three items: two antique silver-toned hatpins and a piece of marked leather military equipment. The first hatpin features a decorative head in the form of a swallow in flight, with detailed feathering on the outspread wings and a characteristic forked tail. The second hatpin has an oval head featuring intricate wirework filigree in a scrolling pattern, centred with a polished raised boss and a dangling spherical filigree cage bead. Both pins are fixed to long, straight, pointed silver-toned stems. The third item is a leather component, likely a military bayonet frog, featuring a steel securing stud. This stud is stamped with the vertically arranged manufacturer code cgf, identifying the maker as Carl Gottlob Heuck of Solingen, and further marked E.S.T. 50.
Condition report:
The hatpins are in good antique condition, showing light surface tarnish and minor oxidation consistent with age. The leather component shows significant age-related wear, including surface scuffing, loss of finish, and cracking. The metal stud on the leather piece exhibits surface oxidation and pitting.
