A vintage wooden child’s sledge, featuring the model name LIGHTNING painted in red capital letters across the top crossbar. The sledge is constructed from wood with a blue painted finish, accented by central vertical racing stripes in red and yellow. The design incorporates two wooden runners with metal-shod undersides. A length of weathered and knotted rope is attached to the front crossbar via two pre-drilled holes. The item is characteristic of mid-20th century winter sports equipment. Two small labels are present on the front: a circular white label numbered 1488 and a rectangular lot tag marked Lot 394.
Condition report:
The sledge shows signs of extensive age and use. There is significant paint loss, scuffing, and wear across the wooden surfaces. The metal-shod runners exhibit heavy surface oxidation and corrosion. The wooden components show general weathering and minor chipping to the edges. The attached rope is frayed and discoloured.
