Two distinct antiquarian works of non-fiction. The first is titled The Book of Curiosities; or, Wonders of the Great World: Containing an Account of Whatever is Most Remarkable in Nature & Art, Science & Literature by the Rev. John Platts. Published in London by Henry Fisher at the Caxton Press. The engraved frontispiece is dated 14 February 1822.
The second volume is titled African Aphorisms; or, Saws from Swahili-land, collected, translated, and annotated by the Rev. W. E. Taylor. Published in London by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK) in 1891. This first edition includes a preface by the Rev. W. Salter Price.
Condition report:
The Book of Curiosities is in poor condition with heavy wear and significant surface loss to the leather binding. The spine is damaged and has been reinforced with three strips of adhesive masking tape across the joints. Internal pages show heavy foxing, water staining, and general toning throughout. African Aphorisms is in good condition with minor shelf wear and bumping to the corners and spine ends of the cloth binding. The internal pages show light age-related toning but are generally clean and well-preserved.
