A multi-volume set comprising The History of the County Palatine and Duchy of Lancaster by the late Edward Baines, Esq. This work is the New, Revised, and Enlarged Edition, edited by James Croston, F.S.A., and includes corrected family pedigrees. The volumes were published by John Heywood, Manchester and London, with Volume I dated 1888 on the title page. Each volume is bound in the original green textured cloth with gilt-stamped titles and Roman numerals on the spines. The set comprises volumes I, II, III, IV, and V. The internal pages are printed on cream paper with occasional foxing.
Condition report:
The original green cloth is significantly sun-faded on the spines to a tan-brown colour. There is visible wear, rubbing, and fraying at the head and tail of the spines and along the joints. The board corners are bumped and worn. Internally, the text blocks show scattered foxing and spotting. One volume bears a small adhesive lot sticker numbered .1468 to the spine.
