An autograph letter signed by Sir Winston Churchill, written on a single sheet of official cream-toned stationery featuring a printed blackletter header reading 10, Downing Street, / Whitehall. The manuscript text, composed in black ink, reads: I am so much obliged / to you for your very kind / token of goodwill on my / birthday. The letter is signed Winston S. Churchill at the foot, followed by a characteristic horizontal pen flourish. The sheet has been tipped onto a larger, heavier cream-toned paper mount. The handwriting and signature are consistent with documented examples from Churchill’s tenures as Prime Minister.
Condition report:
The letter sheet displays original horizontal and vertical mailing folds. There are several prominent red-toned stains and foxing marks present across the document, which are highly visible when the sheet is backlit. The secondary mounting board shows age-toning, peripheral wear, and minor tears along the left-hand margin. The reverse of the mount reveals adhesive remnants and the outline of the tipped-in sheet along with light staining.
